Women of Gotham

I am excited to finally present the first piece in my Just Super series, creating images inspired by great cosplay.  I HAD to start with these amazing ladies, my favorite girls from Gotham.  I’m working a bit to cut down on my habit of outlining everything in black.  Contrary-wise, I am also trying to incorporate larger areas of solid black for shadows.  Drawing inspiration from Mike Mignola and Bruce Timm.  Done with watercolor, gouache, gold leaf, acrylic, and marker on paper.

Original cosplays by:

1) Mango Sirene - Barbara Gordon/Batgirl

2) Y-o-s-s-i - Kate Kane/Batwoman

3) Allicia1 - Helena Bertinelli/Huntress

4) Contagious Costuming - Carrie Kelley/Robin

5) Chinasaur - Cassie Cain/Black Bat

6) Aigue-Marine - Stephanie Brown/Batgirl

Piece is dedicated to Gail Simone, for being a badass.

Gouache and Mixed Media on Wood Panel
2013

Latest commission.  My friend's dog suddenly and unexpectedly died last year, and she wanted a portrait to remember him by.  She's really into those portraits of monkeys in military garb (which is apparently a thing?), so I did his portrait in the same style.  I tried to add as much meaning into the uniform as possible, including the monogram for their last name, and a tiny portrait of her, above which says "Mum".

Also, oval paintings are really hard to cut out in photoshop.  I really should invest in a backdrop.

The Life and Times of Amy Pond

The commission I've spent the last 5 months working on. Months 1-3: Drawing. Month 4: Inking. Month 5: Painting.

The guy asks for a commission with The Doctor, Amy, and the TARDIS. I need to work on telling my brain to stop being so goddamned ambitious. But, I had the idea, and I wanted to run with it.

The Adventures of Byrd-Man & Space Cat

Oh man, I finally made something new you guys. May I present to you "The Adventures of Byrd-Man & Space Cat", the commission I've been working on for two months. These two are OCs of the client and her boyfriend. This project was really awesome because she pretty much gave me complete creative control over the character design and everything (although they are meant to resemble the actual people). The task was to create a comic book cover for these two. I really wanted it to pay homage to old, retro sci-fi comics. And voila, here it is.

MidSouthCon!!!!

Hello viewers old and new!  Just woke up from my post-con coma, and headed over here to say hullo to all the lovely people who picked up my cards over the weekend!  It was my first time having my own table at a con, and it was really lovely to hear all of the nice things people had to say about my work.  Links to where you can find me around the web are at the bottom of this post.  For those who weren't there, take a look!

My set up outside the art room.

Close up on my sign.

Me cheesing it up at the table in my Delirium costume Saturday.
Lastly, I ended up buying some art for myself in the auction.  I am very excited to present this FABULOUS Batgirl by Katie Jones!  Ugh, I love it sooo much!  Chunky Batgirl FTW!  Kind of reminds me of R. Crumb a bit :)  I keep staring at how the paint was applied.  I'm a lucky girl to get it.

I was also really lucky to attend a couple of BA panels on webcomic publishing and breaking into art as a business.  The amazing artist guest of honor, John Picacio, gave me some really good advice and critique, it was an amazing experience that I really appreciated.  Hopefully I'll get to put some of that advice into practice soon.

Alright, now that that's out of my system, I have some info for any and all of you new watchers out there!  If you are interested in a commission or in purchasing any of the work I displayed over the weekend, please contact me at thepaisleylady@rocketmail.com with full details and I promise to get back to you ASAP.  Price, sizing, subject matter, and medium are all negotiable, and I am more than happy to help you with whatever you need!

Ok, and, for those of you that don't use Blogger, here are the links to my other sites across the web!  All of them get the same updates and new content, so just pick the one that suits you best!  Enjoy!
