Christmas Commission

Gouache and Mixed Media on Watercolor Paper
2015
A little holiday commission for my friend to her new girlfriend.  That’s the power of love y’all!  In case you can’t tell, that’s the View Askew-niverse’/Kevin Smith’s Buddy Christ (TM) and his cute new boyfriend, Elvis Presley.  Hey, I don’t make the requests, I just fulfill ‘em.  But I did have a giggle creating this gaudy and oh-so-subversive piece.  SO.  MUCH.  GLITTER.  Merry post-Christmas you guys!

Witchsona

My witchsona Hammelin and her familiar Nostradamus.  She’s a storytime witch, on her way to read to sleepy children.  Head to toe, she’s wearing my favorite outfit, which (ha!) you can spot me in, any time between November and March.  Notice the mysteriously large volume of Mo Willems’ Pigeon stories.  A collected edition perhaps?  Or maybe she has the power to collect stories from the future?

I know this is atrociously late (more like witchsona month, amiright?), but this is probably my favorite cartoon I’ve ever drawn.  The initial drawing was finished within the week.  It’s the coloring I took forever on.

For those of you that don't know, Witchsona Week is an event on tumblr where artists are prompted to draw themselves as witches.  It's amazing.

Love as Strong as a Shield, Love as Delicate as Roses

24 in. diameter by 2 in. thick
Mixed Media on Pine
2015

A commission piece for my pal.  The surface is a pine tabletop that I found at the hardware store.  The designs are all wood burnt (new!  for me!), the roses are gouache, the vine spirals are colored pencil, and the silver is metallic paint with a black patina wash.  Finally, the whole thing is coated in beeswax, a renaissance method called encaustic that I learned at a workshop.  It weighs a TON.  It's not really my cup of tea, but I had a lot of fun doing it, and I'm happy to have learned a couple of new things.

LISTEN

New Catchphrase piece!  I dunno about you guys, but I am LOVING the new Doctor!  So far, adored pretty much every episode (but especially “Robots of Sherwood”).  Not sure if 12 is going to have an official catchphrase like his predecessors, but I think “Listen!” would be fitting to his new frustrated/crotchety personality.  Capaldi is slaying it!

McKellen Me Softly: Mag-NEATO

Hey guys, check it out! Now that I’ve unpacked my camera, you can see my submission to this year’s Geeks Out show, “McKellen Me Softly”! As you can see, this year the show is dedicated to the fantastic Sir Ian McKellen, who I think we all love and admire. I have, somewhat unoriginally, titled this one “Mag-NEATO”.

Don't Be A Dick!

"Don’t Be A Dick!"
Gouache and Mixed Media (including dice) on Wood Panel
2X3 ft.
2014

Alrighty, some of you may have heard that back in February, *the* Wil Wheaton commissioned me for a portrait. (Squeeee!) *Ahem* ANYWAYS, the painting has been finished for awhile now, but I wanted to make sure that Wil himself had ample time to see the piece before I posted it. My shipping tracking informs me that it has been delivered since Thursday, so today is the day!

For those that don’t know, Wil hosts a youtube series called Tabletop, where he and various other friends/geek celebrities get together and play different tabletop games to demonstrate how they work. With any hope, my painting will be taking a place on the set of the show. Therefore, I geared my painting to reflect that aspect of Mr Wheaton. Also included is his straightforward yet ever useful catch phrase. Enjoy!
